Café de Olla - Traditional Mexican Coffee

CAFE DE OLLA 
  • About 1 cup Ground coffee- preferably of Mexican Origin
  • 1 large stick Canela - Mexican Cinnamon
  • 1/2-1 cone Piloncillo - Dark Sugar 
  • Peel of 1 small orange
  • Optional spices - Cardamom, Star Anise
  • 8 cups water

 

INSTRUCTIONS

Serves 4.

Feel inspired to change the amounts if you want your coffee less sweet, more spiced, etc. 

In a pot, preferably clay, combine water, piloncillo, and canela and bring to a boil. Once the piloncillo dissolves, add the orange peel. While boiling, add in coffee, stir and remove from heat. Let sit for 5 minutes, ladle out of pot and drink hot.

You can reheat this coffee and it will not loose it flavor or quality. This is one of my favorite drinks and brings me right back to Mexico.
