TIENDA SALSITA RECALLS SEASONAL MOLE MICHOACÁN AND HOLIDAY MOLE NEGRO BECAUSE OF POSSIBLE HEALTH RISK

During a recent inspection of Tienda Salsita(Healdsburg, CA), the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) informed us that our seasonal mole products have a pH over 4.6 which may result in the growth of Clostridium botulinum.

Clostridium botulinum contamination can cause life-threatening illness or death, and inadequate labeling, in particular labeling that does not include major food allergens, may result in severe or life-threatening reactions. 

 We immediately and voluntarily stopped the sale of all mole from our online store and conducted additional testing to verify CDPH’s determination. 

These mole products listed above were distributed through mail order and direct to consumers through the Healdsburg and Santa Rosa farmers markets. 

These recalled products are packed in 9 oz glass jar containers. The label on the container is shown below. Expiration date is one year after production. The recalled products were distributed in California and online to customers from 10/29/2022 through 11/30/2022. A list of recalled products and affected Use By Dates range is listed in the table below. 

 

 

This recall is being made with the knowledge of the California Department of Health. No confirmed illnesses have been reported. If a consumer has this product in their possession please reach out to us to discuss replacement products. All affected and recalled products should not be consumed and should be discarded. 

No other Tienda Salsita products are included in this recall. Our customers' health is our primary concern. We are addressing this situation to adjust protocols accordingly to continually enhance our food safety program.
